The top five contents curated on Village in August '22. Out of 495 contents added into the network, these were the most highly regarded and discussed pieces.
Welcome to the first edition of Village V, a newsletter from Village featuring the five most highly regarded and discussed pieces curated into Village each month.
Most curated newsletters have a single curator. They can be biased and often miss some of the best content that's out there. Village V is as if you had access to the collective opinion of a diverse group of hundreds of curious and smart people in Silicon Valley.
On the first Monday of every month, we’ll take the five contents that our community found to be the most valuable during the previous month and pack it up into one newsletter for you.
Thanks for being an early supporter of Village. If your curation made it into the August edition, congrats and thanks for sharing incredible content with the rest of us – keep it up!

#2: 10,000 Hours with Reid Hoffman: What I Learned
By Ben Casnocha
“When you are fully enmeshed in another person’s life, when your job at one point is to look at the world from his perspective every single day—that person’s impact on you becomes so foundational that it’s hard to disentangle where his influence starts and stops.”
Helpful for:

#4: Working Better with Stakeholders — Three Key Techniques
By Itamar Gilad
"Your job is to get everyone into a place of true collaboration with broad shared context and clear goals. You should solicit the help and feedback of your stakeholders when you create your (outcome) goals, but then ask them to give you room to try out multiple ideas."
Helpful for:
People who struggle to manage their boss or colleagues at work
People who could benefit from some tactics on influencing others
Central Question Addressed:
Everyone I work with has strong opinions about how things should be done. How can I collaborate better with them and get their support for the ideas I believe are best?
Curated by Mingming.
#5: Searching for Outliers
By Ben Kuhn
"It’s helpful to think ahead about what you’d expect a potential outlier to look like, instead of trying to think ad-hoc about “is this a potential outlier?” for each candidate. Of course, that’s hard! I actually don’t think I’ve done a very good job of this myself, but one thing I’ve found helpful is to ask other people what outliers have looked like based on their experience."
Helpful for:
People who are trying to recruit the best candidates
People who are trying to find the right romantic partner for themselves
People who are trying to stand out from a crowd (applying for a job, school, etc.)
Central Question Addressed:
How can I identify outliers in every aspect of my life? How can I know if I’ve found an outlier, and how can I become an outlier myself?
Curated by Annie.
